Collection: Prairie Water Color Painters
The Prairie Water Color Painters’ club was established in 1934 by Birger Sandzén (1871-1954) as a way to promote the medium of watercolor in the American Midwest. The group was comprised primarily of artists from Kansas along with Oklahoma and Colorado. The group exhibited regularly and members include: Albert Bloch (1882-1961), Vance Kirkland (1904-1981), Charles L. Marshall (1905-1992), Albert Byron Olson (1885-1940), Eve Drewelowe (1899-1988), Muriel Sibell Wolle (1898-1977), Henry Varnum Poor (1887-1970), Doel Reed (1895-1985), Oscar Brousse Jacobson (1882-1966), Margaret Sandzén Greenough (1909-1993), Dolores Runbeck (1898-1994), Signe Larson (1908-1993), Carl William Peterson (1919-2009), Charles B. Rogers (1911-1987), Zona L. Wheeler (1913-1998), John F. Helm, Jr. (1900-1972), Karl Mattern (1892-1969), William Dickerson (1904-1972) and Clayton Henri Staples (1892-1978).
