About the Artist

Born in England, Henry Culmer (Henry Lavender Adolphus Culmer) served as an apprentice in a London print shop before immigrating with his parents to the United States in 1868. He studied at the University of Utah and in California under Julian Rix. Known for his landscape paintings, Culmer went on to become one of Utah's most popular painters and several of his works were illustrated in National Geographic magazine.
