About the Artist
Gilbert Gaul was born in New Jersey in 1855. He studied at the Art Students League in New York and the National Academy of Design under John George Brown. He worked as an illustrator for Harper's and Century magazines and made numerous trips to the American West between 1882-1891. He is known for his military subjects and western scenes.
