About the Artist

Born in London, Frederick "Monty" Charman studied at the Hammersmith College of Art and under Sidney Haward. In 1923, he relocated to the United States where he accepted a position at Syracuse University where he remained until he retired in 1960.

Member: American Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Watercolor Club, Baltimore Watercolor Club.

Exhibited: Albright Art Gallery; Art Institute of Chicago; Binghamton Museum of Art; Salt Lake City, Utah; Everson Museum of Art (solo retrospective with wife, 1961); Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute (solo); National Academy of Design; Pennsylvania of Fine Arts; Philadelphia Watercolor Club (annually); Rochester Memorial Art Gallery.
